FAQs
General
Q: |
What subjects are taught at cooperative class level? |
A: |
You name it --- it's been a class! Everything from sewing to an Introduction to the Law has been taught. Classes can be hands on, or lecture based, artsy, science, history or music. We love them all! You can see current classes by visiting the Class Listing page. |
Q: |
What qualifications do I need to have in order to teach a class? |
A: |
A passion for a subject and a willingness and excitement to share it with students! If you have an interest, a hobby, or an area of expertise, we would love to have you share it in a classroom, no degree necessary. For the lower grades, many moms have frequently turned a subject that they wanted to learn more about or introduce to their kids into a class. |
Requirements
Q: |
Do I have to teach a class in order to participate? |
A: |
No, you do not. There are many ways to contribute to our co-op. Especially for those that are spending their first semester with us, teaching may feel a bit intimmidating. However, as you settle in here, it's good to keep in mind that the more people who pitch in to teach, the easier it is to keep class offerings fresh for the kids as well as keep the weight of planning and executing classes from falling to a few individuals.

Co-op Day
Q: |
If my children are in the cooperative classes, do we need to stay all day? |
A: |
No, you are free to sign up for as many or as few classes as you would like. Sometimes families with small children have an easier time if they don't spend the entire day. However, you do need to stay at the building. This is not a drop off and pickup program. |
Q: |
What happens if my child has a free class period during the day? |
A: |
That mostly depends on the age of the child. If they are old enough to be independent, they may take advantage of a quiet study area or set up in the cafeteria. If your child is young enough that they need supervision, we will work with your schedule to make sure you are available to spend that time with them. |
Fees
Q: |
What does my annual membership fee pay for? |
A: |
The annual membership fee goes towards your digital membership costs and insurance. |
Q: |
What does my family semester class registration and class fees pay for? |
A: |
Your Family Semester Class Registration fee is a 'per family' cost that goes towards rent, supplies, copies ... the list is endless. We are frugal and wise with our funds, but everything costs something these days. These fees keep us up and running. We work hard to keep our fees as reasonable as possible. You can find specific amounts and further explanations in the 'Fee' section of the website. |
Q: |
How do I pay my annual membership and semester class registration fees? |
A: |
You may pay by check made out to "The Enrichment Center of Western PA" or via PayPal in your membership area. Simply log in using the 'username' and 'password' you created during registration. Click the 'Balance' link in the upper right-hand corner and follow the on-screen prompts. |
